What is the Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT)?
The Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT) is widely used to predict the work performance of candidates seeking upper-level jobs, including, sales executive, managerial roles, software developer, executive assistant, and software analyst positions.
The goal of the CCAT aptitude test is to measure your problem-solving, critical thinking, aptitude & learning skills.
Far too many otherwise qualified job seekers are being turned away from the job they applied for simply because they fail the CCAT. The passing rate for the CCAT is surprisingly low, in fact, only 20% of test-takers pass. And, the average score is just 24 out of 50.
But, don’t give up hope. Prepterminal is here specifically to help you succeed in your CCAT.

What topics are included in CCAT?
Here we introduce you to each of the CCAT sections in detail.
There are 3 main sections:
- Numerical Reasoning
- Verbal Reasoning
- Spatial & Abstract Reasoning
CCAT Numerical Reasoning
The CCAT math and logic questions test your basic algebra skills, ability to understand proportions, and capacity to work your way through worded problems. In this section of the Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test, you’ll be presented with number series and word problems and the questions may cover fractions, decimals, multiplication and division, and basic algebra. You cannot use a calculator in this test, so make sure you don’t use one when you take your practice tests. You can, however, use a pencil and paper to work out your answers.
CCAT Verbal Reasoning
The CCAT test verbal reasoning questions assess how well you can decipher the precise meaning of a word, how words relate to one another, and what part context plays in your choice of words.
The question will cover letter sequence, antonyms, and syllogisms. A syllogism is a question where the question puts forward two statements and asks the candidate if there are any conclusions they can draw based on the statements.
CCAT Spatial & Abstract Reasoning
The Spatial Reasoning section of the CCAT test assesses how well you can mentally manipulate random shapes. You will need to flip or rotate images in your head, spot outliers, and identify patterns.
This test measures your ability to solve problems, learn, and apply new information accurately. It also tests your capacity to solve problems using visual information. In this section, you will be presented with various types of inductive reasoning series, odd-one-out questions, and matrices.

CCAT Test Common Errors
Focus too long on the first questions
It’s important to pace yourself. Don’t spend too much time on the initial questions as the harder questions are at the end of the test.
Lack of attention
Many inexperienced test-takers lose focus during the test. Remember to double-check your answers. Taking an extra second to check will stop you from making careless mistakes.
Spending too much time on one question
This is a clear CCAT trap. If you don’t know the answer to a question, your best bet is to guess. If you are not sure how long you should spend on each question, don’t stress. This is one of the skills you will develop from completing our full-length mock-tests.
Trying to answer all of the questions
The truth is you’re not expected to answer all of the 50 questions on the CCAT. You are better off giving yourself a bit of extra time and aim to answer 40 questions well. If you try to rush through all 50 questions you may only end up getting 30 right.
CCAT Test Scores
Your percentile ranking and your raw score will feature on the first page of the score report.
Raw score
Once you complete your CCAT test, your raw score is calculated from the number of questions you got correct. You will not lose points if you select the wrong answer. If your raw score is 30, this means you have answered 30 out of 50 questions correctly.
Percentile score
A percentile score is calculated using the raw score. The percentile ranking is your score in comparison to the scores of the other candidates who finished the test. The average score on the CCAT is 24 out of 50. If you manage to score more than 24, your score will rank higher than 50% of the candidates who completed the CCAT test.
CCAT Test Results
CCAT scores are calculated immediately, and your employer will get a detailed report within minutes of you finishing the test. The second page of your score report features your percentile ranks and raw scores for the three test sections and recommends sore ranges for certain job positions.
