Fireteam Entry-Level Test Format

The Fireteam entry-level exam is one of the most commonly used firefighter entrance assessments. This is partly because it is interactive. The actual test involves various video-answer parts. You will need to watch videos and then answer the questions according to what you see.

The test consists of the following four parts:

Human Relations

The human relations part of the Fireteam is a situational judgment assessment. It is used to measure your reactions to various situations you may encounter as a firefighter. Your responses will show your employer how you, for example, interact with civilians and colleagues when at the scene of an emergency.

Math Test

Mathematics is used to calculate how much water remains in the tank of the truck, how much water goes through the hose, what hose to use, etc. In this section of the Fireteam test, the math you will need will generally be basic.

Reading Test

Before you can leave the site of a fire, you will need to read and comprehend the initial incident report. You will see this report on an LED scroller in the firehouse on the computer in the vehicle.

Mechanical Reasoning

As a firefighter, you will need to display basic mechanical aptitude skills. You will need to know how to fight fires successfully. For instance, electrical and mechanical skills can help you deal with various issues that could present themselves when you use firefighting tools and equipment.
